Well, here it is... my first paycheck since the fiscal cliff/debt ceiling/national crisis/WORDS WORDS WORDS THAT ANNOY ME has ended. However, the fix that is full of things I don't understand did nothing to stop the Social Security tax from shooting back up (and by shooting it's like errrr... 2 percent more). By the by, am I the only one who thought of Scrooge McDuck sliding down his pile of coins every time I heard the phrase "debt ceiling" & "fiscal cliff"?
Life is like a hurricane, here in DUCKVILLE!
Because I work in publishing and get paid mostly in books (no, but really) my take home is only about $32 less a check.
THIRTY TWO DOLLAS.
There is so much I could have done with that $32:
- Buy 3 shirts from H&M
- Buy 3 lunches during the week (which I normally don't do anyway because I am cheap)
- Buy 5 beers at happy hour
- Use it on a decent dinner out (minus a bottle of wine)
- Buy a bottle of wine at a restaurant that isn't awful
- Put it towards my holiday shopping credit card debt hellish hell go away now PLEASE
- Purchase a shelf to put over my dining room table
- Get something like 3200 4x6 photos developed when there are penny print sales!!
Obviously these are all very life and death moments here. I realize there are people in far worst scenarios, and that this will impact their food budget and the like. But, THIS SUCKS! Damn the man....
I'm wondering how much less I will get! It hardly matters as I'm contributing more to 403b this year. Glad it was only $32 for you even though it cuts into your H&M budget!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I feel you! I got annoyed for a second when I first saw my paycheck on Friday, but then I remembered that I voted for all this shiz. State income tax in CA went up 3% at the start of the New Year, but it's for better education, roads, that sort of thing...all of which my Democratic liberal ass voted for. So, I had to quickly remind myself that it was my own doing and that the community would be better for it... Right? :) I still want those extra happy hour drinks though...
