Lately, I've been looking at a lot of stripes...
Not just the ones in the same color family in my closet
(no worries, I exchanged the middle shirt for a blue version)....
Pinterest is a horrible, horrible invention. It's made me believe I can do these types of thing without losing my mind and pulling out all my hair. Even after reminding myself about my degenerate techniques of painting an accent wall, I still can't talk myself out of it. The after-effect far outweighs the hours of torture, and that long narrow entryway is begging for a paint job. Don't they say horizontal stripes make things look bigger?
There are plenty of how-to guides online, but I'm suspicious of my ability to keep a pattern going.
Anyone paint stripes before and live to tell the tale? Any great tips or tricks?

Stripes on walls are so classy! I HATE painting in one solid color so although I would LOVE this I would have to hire someone to do it!
ReplyDeleteOh, man, I REALLY want to do stripes in our entryway, but because we live in a vintage place, nothing is level. Horizontal stripes would just emphasize that, so I've given up my dream. Maybe in our next place.
ReplyDeleteMy suggestion is to use a quality painters tape...like Frog Tape. Also, I've read that that you should tape each stripe off as you go versus putting all the tape up at once and to paint the edge of the tape with a very thin coat of the wall's base color to ensure that the edges stay sharp and color of the stripe won't bleed through. However, if you use a good painters tape you may not need that. Can't wait to see the stripes! Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about Pinterest... although my husband is thankful for it everyday with all the recipes I steal. I love the stripes and think they really add some character to a room. Good luck!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback everyone. Hope to have an update on this conundrum of a project soon. :)
